Advantest R4870 RF Communications Test Set
Advantest R4870 Radio Communication Tester is the industry's first Bluetooth instrumentation product that has the ability to test both a product's radio frequency (RF) characteristics and its interoperability with other Bluetooth-enabled products. This new tester will help manufacturers ensure that their Bluetooth-enabled devices conform to global specifications-a key step toward fulfilling the potential of the rapidly growing wireless technology aimed at providing a low-cost solution for establishing ad hoc, short-range wireless networks, connecting a variety of consumer-electronics devices.
R4870 Features and Benefits
For testing of the Bluetooth radio layer, the Advantest R4870 is capable of performing tests on output power, modulation characteristics, initial carrier frequency tolerance, sensitivity and communication test (Blue Unit Test Cases), as defined by the Bluetooth SIG. In the near future, when used in conjunction with other test equipment such as spectrum analyzers and signal generators, the R4870 also will be capable of testing all the radio frequency requirements specified by the SIG. Manufacturers will thus have the power to perform pre-qualification testing and accelerate their certification process by a Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility (BQTF). The R4870 also features the ability to automatically start testing of Bluetooth modules via its embedded Host Control Interface (HCI) and can perform testing using a "dirty" transmitter signal (an irregularly modulated signal used to test a product's demodulation characteristics).
The second AAM product based on Advantest's flexible 'Wizard of Module Test' (WMT) architecture for ease of enhancing measuring-instrument functionality and performance, the R4870 system features an external frame with up to 20 slots for various combinations of modules. Users can easily switch or expand the modules to add new functions, with minimal additional investment required. To help shorten test times and thus reduce manufacturing costs, the R4870 comes with a unique high-speed testing mode function for manufacturing line and pre-shipment testing. To ensure high usability, the system incorporates a 12-inch color thin-film transistor (TFT) touch-panel display that lets test engineers quickly alter their testing setup.
